VENTURE COACHING PROGRAM

Did you know that 98% of all funding comes from a personal introduction through a trusted network to a potential investor? Are you prepared for the long campaign to uncover and connect with the right investors who can help your company reach new heights? The TCN Venture Coaching Program is a series of tailored mentoring and feedback sessions for entrepreneurs designed to accelerate a start-up’s ability to successfully raise early stage capital.

Target participant: High-growth companies based in New England that are actively seeking early stage funding. One or more entrepreneurs from a given company may participate.

Our Goal: To help entrepreneurs…

  • Understand how to employ their business and personal networks to find sources of capital
  • Build a clear and strong strategic business message and materials targeted to potential customers/investors
  • Prepare to successfully meet their goals and grow their business

Brief overview of program: A 6-month venture development program consisting of meetings with a hand-selected mentor, 2 opportunities to pitch your company, and participation in Nutter McClennen & Fish’s Strategic Planning Program. During this time, participants have unlimited access to all TCN events.

Mentors: Each participating company will be matched with a Mentor who will act as your guide through the program and work with you to strengthen your business plan, pitch, and connections in the community. Our mentors are experienced professionals in the funding of seed and early stage companies and include entrepreneurs, senior leaders at larger strategic partners, lawyers, bankers and auditors.

Throughout the program, the Mentor will be reviewing and discussing the following areas with the entrepreneur to determine the company's business model and potential suitability for funding:

  • Problem Solved
  • Markets Served
  • Product/Service Offered
  • Development/Manufacturing Plan
  • Marketing and Sales Plans
  • Current Customers and Revenues
  • Financials, Cash Position and Financial Management
  • Corporate Structure
  • Critical Service Providers
  • Intellectual Property
  • Funding Requirements and Sources
  • Liquidity Plans and Exits
  • The Team

The Nutter McClennen & Fish Strategic Planning Program will consist of individually-tailored sessions with an attorney who specializes in early-stage companies. Topics may include Business Organics, Raising Capital, and Intellectual Property Strategy.

How it Works:

  • Apply online here.
  • If you are accepted into the program, we will schedule a call to review the program and your company, find you an appropriate mentor, organize payment, and schedule Strategic Planning sessions with Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP.
  • You will complete a questionnaire with 10-15 basic questions an entrepreneur should use to guide in their first meeting with a mentor.
  • First meeting with mentor to discuss the company and its needs
  • Second meeting with mentor to prepare for pitch session #1
  • Pitch Session #1 with General Business Advisors (experienced entrepreneurs who have built companies and raised outside capital)
  • Third meeting with mentor to prepare for pitch session #2
  • Pitch Session #2 with local VCs and Angels (experienced professionals in the funding of seed and early stage companies)
  • Fourth meeting with mentor to reflect on pitches and explore further sources of funding

Commitment: Participants and mentors are expected to commit to 40+ hours of work over the course of the 6-month Venture Coaching Program. The exact amount of time is dependent on the stage and level of commitment of the company. This cost of this program to you is $99, which is heavily subsidized by TCN sponsors. Scholarships may be available – email us for more information.

Dates: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the 6-month program will begin on one of two dates throughout the year – September 1 and February 1.
