The network

history

The Capital Network (TCN) is a not-for-profit organization that has, for over 20 years, successfully provided information and a community for investors and entrepreneurs seeking early-stage capital.

Prof. William Wetzel at the Center for Venture Research at the University of New Hampshire founded TCN in 1984. In 1991, TCN moved from New Hampshire to Boston and became affiliated with MIT as the Technology Capital Network. The MIT Enterprise Forum shares a founder in common with The Capital Network — Vince Fulmer, esteemed Secretary Emeritus of MIT and now Honorary Chair of The Capital Network. Recently, TCN separated from MIT and changed its name to The Capital Network.

TCN was created one of the first venues for entrepreneurs to present their business plans to an audience of angel investors. In the past ten years, approximately 4500 entrepreneurs have attended Financing Roundtables while approximately 300 companies have been included in the Funding Forum.  During this time TCN has attracted nearly 1000 investors to its programs.

TCN's recent history is equally impressive. During the Spring of 2006, a participant in TCN's Funding Forum closed on $750,000 of capital thirty days after the program. Another CEO gained a mentor who is navigating this medical device company beyond 'proof of concept' to a model that will be attractive to investors.

While The Capital Network is a community for entrepreneurs and investors, it is not and never has acted as a broker/dealer.
